Having worked the last 25 years as both a high school English teacher and now director of a social profit agency devoted to mentoring youth and preventing substance abuse and violence, I know first-hand the challenges that face our schools and our communities. I am convinced that above all, the most impactful strategies for helping young people reach their potential and enjoy meaningful success in life are to provide them with caring responsible adult role models and with opportunities to explore their passions and ideas. When we add high expectations and endless positive encouragement, kids achieve great things.
I am thrilled to be working with EagleRidge staff and fellow board members who share these beliefs. We are committed to the concepts of a small school environment, employing technology as a vital tool in education, and teaching with an emphasis on building critical thinking skills and character.
Mark Twain once implored “never let your schooling get in the way of your education.” EagleRidge inspires me because of their commitment to innovation and learning as a life- long process – it’s more than schooling – it’s a meaningful journey to be enjoyed and shared with others.
