Tiffany Slaughter
When I was a little girl, people always asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I actually knew the answer by the time I was in kindergarten, and I have not looked back since…I wanted to be a teacher. I was born and raised in a small town outside Boise, Idaho called Bowmont, Idaho. I grew up playing volleyball, basketball, tennis and softball. I am the oldest of five children, so my siblings and I learned at an early age how to share and how to take care of one another.
After high school, I attended Eastern Oregon University and became one of the first graduates in the state of Oregon to earn a Master of Education degree in just one year. My first four years of college were spent earning my bachelors degree in English and language arts. I also played on Eastern’s volleyball and tennis teams and served as team captain for both.
My first job besides babysitting and corn topping in high school was at Bill’s Quik Mart and Deli as a clerk and espresso maker while I attended college. I worked at that job for the entire five years that I attended EOU. Upon graduating from EOU, I took my first teaching position in Spray, Oregon, a small community right smack in the middle of nowhere! There were 40 students in my high school; my largest class had 12 students, and my smallest had three. I was also the volleyball coach and basketball coach. I directed my first musical, Crazy For You, and that was an experience I will never forget!
I moved to Klamath Falls in the summer of 2000 and began teaching English at KU. I also coached volleyball, basketball and softball for the Pelicans. Upon receiving a phone call in the spring of 2007, my professional life would change forever. I was asked to join the EagleRidge team as the Lead Teacher, and eventually I would become the director.
I could never imagine having a career more fulfilling or important than the job I have now. Opening EagleRidge High School and bringing a brand new way of looking at education into the Klamath Basin is something I had not even considered when I told people I would someday be a teacher. EagleRidge High School has taken my teaching to a whole new level, just as it has brought learning to a new level for our students.
I am now in my second year as the director of EHS, and I just got married this 4th of July to the most amazing and handsome man, Joe Slaughter. We are expecting our first baby April 2nd! To say the least, we are busy with life and a new school, but we would not have it any other way….
